Dress Rehearsal Information
Dress rehearsal will be on Friday, May 16th in the Radford Auditorium
at McMurry University. Dressing room assignments will be posted, ask a staff
member to direct you to your dressing room. Please come to rehearsal with your
hair and make up completed. You may start arriving at 4:30; you must be ready to
dance and in the auditorium dressed in your first costume before 5:15!
We will begin at 5:15 sharp with announcements and finale. After we set the
finale, we will run through the show as it will be on Saturday. All students
should wait in the audience until it is their turn to dance. A backstage helper
will come get each class from the audience, so sit with your classmates.
Students will be supervised in the auditorium. After you are finished rehearsing
your dance, you may stay and watch the other classes, or you may go home. This
will be the only time students will get to watch the show, so many choose to
stay until rehearsal is over. We will finish between 7:30 and 8:00. Students,
you will be expected to show respect to the other dancers by remaining quiet in
the audience, and by getting up to leave the auditorium only between dances.
Larry Chapman of Angle One Photography will be set up in the lobby for anyone
who wishes to have their picture made in their costume. He is very experienced
with dance photos, and does a wonderful job. You will order and pay for the
pictures at dress rehearsal.
We try very hard to make dress rehearsal a positive experience for every
student. We run each dance just once, so they can become familiar with the
stage, it is my philosophy that a well-prepared class needs only one
run-through. Our teachers have worked very hard to ready their students for
recital, and excessive rehearsing the night before a performance is not
necessary.
Please be sure to hang all your costumes up (hang ballet and tulle skirts upside
down). Label all of your items (hair pieces, costumes shoes, tights, makeup,
dance bags, etc.). I have found that costume accessories fit nicely in a ziploc
bag, which can be hung on the costume hanger.
A professional videographer will be taping recital. His policy prohibits
audience members from videotaping the performance, but you are welcome to record
dress rehearsal. Do not take flash photographs while the dancers are on stage,
this is very unsafe for the dancers.
Turning Pointe is notorious for running a quick, fun, and easy dress rehearsal.
Please keep this information to refer to on recital weekend, so you can help
make this rehearsal a success!
